Dr Cathryn Chan Weng Buen pursued her Bachelor’s of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a recipient of the Public Service Commission Local Merit Scholarship. Following the attainment of her Bachelor’s Degree, Dr Chan obtained her membership at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) in the United Kingdom in 1991.
Dr Chan continued her education and underwent 3 years of Advanced Sub-speciality training where she was trained in the area of endoscopic surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy). She is also an accredited colposcopist and regularly attends a variety of courses to continuously improve her clinical skills in the area of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Before commencing private practice in 1995, Dr Chan was in the IVF Team at the Centre of Assisted Reproduction (CARE) at the Singapore General Hospital. She is an accredited IVF clinician with Parkway Fertility Centre, Thomson Fertility Centre and Sincere IVF Center.
Additionally, Dr Chan has a clinical interest in reproductive medicine and infertility which includes helping patients with ovulatory problems, PCOS, tubal blockage, endometriosis, and male infertility.
Dr Chan has assumed positions as a Member of the Gleneagles Tissue Committee and Member of the Gleneagles Hospital and Mt Elizabeth Novena Hospital Medical Advisory Board (O&G Sub-section). She was a recipient of the ASEAN scholarship and also won the Young Investigator Award during the Singapore General Hospital Annual Scientific Meeting.
Dr Chan is fluent in multiple languages which include, English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay and Bahasa Indonesia and is experienced with providing medical services to local, expatriate and foreign patients as well as both local and international insurance companies.
In 2000, Dr Chan performed the first successful IVF case that utilised frozen testicular sperm and frozen oocyte that resulted in pregnancy and has a credible success rate in her fertility procedures.
